RPI's lunch presentation will focus on causes of roof leaks and the ways they can be avoided. Most roof curbs (the devices that are used to install roof mounted equipment) are specified improperly. A lack of coordination between the architect, specification writer, and the mechanical engineer translates into roof mounted equipment being installed with curbs that either do not mate with the equipment or match the roof design. Attendees will learn how the typical roof curbs for HVAC units, exhaust fans and skylights are often the main source of roofing problems. During this presentation, the design of proper roof curbs to solve roofing leaks will be discussed, and attendees will be provided with ways to prevent problems and save money in new construction and retrofit applications.

PRESENTER: Robert K. Banicki, President, Roof Products, Inc. -- Mr. Banicki is a native of Chicago, IL, where he began his career in manufacturing structural roof curbs and promoting them directly to architects. Mr. Banicki was instrumental for the original Roof Curb specification for prefabricated Roof Curbs division 07720 Roof Accessories and many of the various designs of roof curbs that mate with all of the different roof systems. He is widely recognized as the foremost authority in the prefabricated roof curb field. Mr. Banicki has been associated with the trend to specify curbs architecturally, instead of in other sections, to assure proper fit to eliminate the major cause of roof leaks.
